The World of James Herriot

15 Nov 2018

The Tigers had a great time at The World of James Herriot in Thirsk.  With so much to see and so much to do, we are now well-prepared for our topic 'Moving Pictures' (see our class curriculum page).

The children were delighted to spot the blue plaque they had been using to gather information in their Literacy and History lessons.

Having seen the characters of Mrs Pumphrey and Tricki Woo in an episode of 'All Creatures Great and Small', the children enjoyed meeting them 'in person' in the waiting room.

The siren was very loud down in the air raid shelter!  The children were very interested to find out what the Wight family would do if they needed to use the loo whilst they were down there!

In the dispensary, we learned that vets had to make up any medicines or potions themselves in Alf Wight's time.

There was lots to see in the TV studios where we saw the sets used in the TV series 'All Creatures Great and Small'.

We even got to see ourselves on the TV screens!

Upstairs we learned all about farm animals and how vets care for them.  We even had a go at helping Daisy the cow calve!

There were also lots of interactive activities in the children's activity area.

Some of them took perseverence and determination!

A great morning was had by all and we now look forward to using what we learned to help us with our work back at school.
