Autumn Adventures

We have had a lovely week in school talking about the changes all around us.  The children know that it is Autumn and they are noticing the leaves changing colours, the cold weather and the different creatures in our environment.  The children enjoyed cutting up the pumpkins from last week and scooping out the flesh:

The Reception children were using tens frames to count how many seeds were in the pumpkins, but they declared "there's just too many to count!"  There were some great discussions about the smell of the pumpkins, with some children saying they could smell carrots and cucumber!  Nobody had tasted one before, so maybe when you are preparing your Halloween pumpkins over half-term you could make some pumpkin soup?

Year One children have been busy in their Maths this week.  They have been counting with 1:1 correspondence and matching objects.  At the beginning of the week they found this a little bit tricky, but I can really see their progress as the week has gone on.  Remember that Year One children have a MyMaths activity to do at home and I will set another at the end of this week.

In English, we have started looking at 'Tidy' by Emily Gravett.  We have spent a long time looking at the front cover and predicting what the story might be about, who the main characters are and where the story is set.  So far, we think it's about a badger called Pete and he likes picking leaves up in the Autumn forest...we can't wait to find out what will happen next!

We had a lovely Wednesday afternoon in the forest as a whole school:

We finished off with parachute games on the field!  It was lovely to come together as a whole school and see the older children caring for the younger ones. Well done everyone!

There have been lots of "shining like stars" moments this week for excellent use of phonics when reading, solving Maths problems, showing kindness to each other and our school environment  and persevering when things are tricky.  Well done Rockets!

I thought it might be nice to end my weekly update by sharing some photos of the children enjoying the outdoors.  Have a great weekend everyone!
